Art Contest (2019) invites viewers into a world of competition among talented artists. Five brave participants step out of their cozy studios and into the public eye to showcase their artistic abilities. This is a unique reality-show format that challenges artists to create complete works of art within extremely tight time limits.

While paintings can normally take weeks, months, or even years to complete, the contestants are given less than an hour. Each theme must be interpreted in just 45 minutes, all under the pressure of a live public showdown. Hosted by Vanessa Gulliot, the show brings together five artists with different techniques, concepts, and, as the host puts it, “different inner worlds.”

The creative event featured in Art Contest takes place in northern France, in the city of Le Havre. Among the participants is the experienced Mathieu, who has worked across various styles, including graffiti. The street art scene is also represented by 18-year-old Malte, as well as the bold Benji, who, despite his graffiti background, has created numerous remarkable canvas works using striking techniques. Melissa’s work is infused with a strong sense of cultural philosophy, while visual artist Gaël completes the lineup of competitors.

The audience gets to see what risks artists are willing to take in order to produce a masterpiece in just minutes and present it for expert judgment. Viewers are also introduced to different artistic techniques that can be used under pressure. The show demonstrates that creating art under strict time constraints can be just as exciting and intense as a sports competition.
